Particle Approximation of 2d Navier-Stokes equations in bounded domainsPoint vortex methods have been a fundamental approximation tool for 2d Euler and Navier-Stokes dynamics since the fundamental works of Chorin, both in theoretical and numerical studies. However, the point vortex approach faces serious, inherent limitations in presence of no-slip boundaries, that is when dealing with physically relevant models in which vorticity is created in order to compensate the velocity induced by the bulk of the fluid in boundary layers. The talk will outline past and recent results aiming to provide a rigorous mathematical description of these phenomena.
